The Faculty of Humanities and Education of the University of Los Andes is committed to:
1) Promote, coordinate and evaluate the teaching, research and extension programs, in order to contribute to the development of the country and particularly to improve the level of university education.
2) Train undergraduate students according to the country needs, for the teaching profession in Education Sciences and Humanities, Languages, Literature, and Arts.
3) Train qualified teaching staff for the different levels of the Venezuelan educational system.
4) Offer teaching programs for those professionals who have not pursued teaching-based programs in their undergraduate studies.
5) Offer graduate programs, such as Master’s and Doctorate’s degrees.
6) Promote curricular design updates for the various programs offered in the the Faculty.
7) Mentoring programs for new students.
8) Monitor the teaching performance of lecturers, professors, and students.
9) Maintain order and discipline according to the laws and regulations that rule the functioning of the Faculty and the University.
10) Supervise and promote the results of the discussions obtained by the different school councils, and present the solutions taken in the Faculty Council.
11) Execute the decisions of the School Councils or, where appropriate, the Faculty Council, in relation to the functioning of the departments.
12) Coordinate student enrollment process.
13) Establish national and international research networks.
14) Promote continuing education courses for students from other faculties and from outside the university.
15) Organize counseling sessions for educational institutions in the region.
16) Lead counseling programs for different educational institutes related with the academic programs offered by the Faculty.
17) Schedule, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate academic activities in order to ensure the fulfillment of their functions.
18) Train professors in areas related with community service.
19) Design policies for the incentive, promotion and development of teaching, research, and extension programs of the Departments at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Mission:
Our mission is contributing to the creation, development and diffusion of innovative and competitive knowledge, in the human sciences, literature and educational sciences. As well as, ethical and comprehensive training of highly qualified professionals, capable to be promoters of social, cultural, educational, and humanistic changes that lead to the strengthening of freedom, democracy and welfare of the nation.

Vision:
Our vision is being leader in training highly competitive professionals in humanistic sciences, literature and educational sciences areas. Likewise, educate professionals with a deep sense of social justice and human solidarity in a context of ethical and moral values; with an innovative thinking, capable to confront changes demanded by the society for the development of the country.
On June 25th, 1955 the Academic Council of the University of Los Andes decreted the establishment of the School of Humanities assigned to the Faculty of Law. This School would be in charge of two departments, History and Literature. Its first director was Dr. Luis Espineti Dini. On July 12th, 1958, after regional and national efforts, the School of Humanities was promoted to the category of faculty. Its mission would be the promotion and development of humanistic studies, as well as to enrich the spiritual heritage of the nation. Its first dean was Dr. Carlos César Rodríguez.

The Faculty of Humanities continued working with two departments, History and Literature, later they became schools. In 1959, the Education School was created. On September 15th, 1959 the National Council of Universities approved the creation of the Education School for the University of Los Andes, concretely the faculty of humanities. On September 16, 1966 by decision of the Universities National Council the Education School was also opened in the university campus located in Táchira State. After the creation of History, Literary and Education Schools, by decision of the Universities National Council, the Audiovisual Media School was created and in June 28th, 1998 the Modern Languages School was stablished and its activities started in November that same year. From its beginning until now, the Faculty of Humanities and Education has continued working without stopping.
