School of Audiovisual Media

 

History

Since his arrival as the highest authority of the University of Los Andes in 1958, Dr. Pedro Rincón Gutiérrez wanted to link the University to national to Latin American filmmaking. The first initiative was in 1962 when the Department of Cinema of the University of Los Andes was created. In 1970 the filmmaker Carlos Rebolledo joined the Department of Cinema and he continued with the interest to constitute a cinema school. In 1983 the Department of Culture created the Experimental Art Center, where the creation of a film school was planned. All these attempts were consolidated on October 4, 1991, when José Antonio Abreu, representing the National Council for Culture and the President of the ULA at that time and Néstor López Rodriguez, signed an agreement to create the National Film and Television School at ULA. The National University Council (CNU) approved the creation of a degree in Audiovisual Media on December 15, 1995, and the beginning of academic activities of the EMA, as it is known since then.

Structure

The School of Audiovisual Media is composed of 4 departments: Realization and Production, Cinematography and Video, Human Sciences and recently the Department of Social Communication was joined.

Since the approval of its creation, the School of Audiovisual Media enjoys the privilege of being the only at a high-education level in the country. In addition, most of its alumni have been awarded due to the quality of their professional performance and some of them conformed the professorial staff of the school.

School of Modern Languages

 

History

The School of Modern Languages of the Faculty of Humanities and Education at ULA began its activities on November 1, 1998, and the curriculum of the Bachelor's Degree in Modern Languages was borrowed from the Bachelor's Degree in Language and Modern Literature of the School of Education. 

The task of the School of Modern Languages is to cooperate with the transformation of Venezuela through the training of professionals with linguistic knowledge and cultural-related skills in at least two modern foreign languages. The School of Modern Languages works intensively in order to contribute to spread the languages and cultures and to establish an effective communication between Venezuela and other nations.

The School of Modern Languages awards the undergraduate degree in Modern Languages and it also offers postgraduate studies. For further information, please refer to Study programs


Structure

Currently, the School of Modern Languages of the Faculty of Humanities and Education comprises 5 departments: English, French, Italian, Foreign Languages and Applied Foreign Languages.


Research

The School of Modern Languages is assisted by the Centro de Investigaciones en Lenguas Extranjeras and the Research Group on Literaturaturas en el Mundo (in Spanish, G.I.L.I.M) in its contribution to the key tasks of teaching and research. For further information, please refer to Research

School of Education

 

 

History

The School of Education of the University of Los Andes was created on September, 15th, 1969 by the National Council of Universities CNU and after the resolution of the University Council on September 17, 1959. The first graduating class was announced on August 8, 1963. At that time, the organizational structure of the School had 5 departments: Pedagogy and Didactics, Psychology, Statistics and Evaluation, Seminars and Philosophy. The first two specializations were the Bachelor's Degree in Educational Technology and the Bachelor's Degree in Administration.art student 3 1455268

The School of Education of the Faculty of Humanities and Education seeks to consolidate itself as a School of high academic and scientific level, with impact on the educational field and educational sciences. Likewise, its mission is to develop and stimulate scientific research and to assist in the production of knowledge in the educational area.

The School of Education awards undergraduate degrees in Education, majors: elementary school, nature and physics , modern languages, mathematics, preschool and physical education, sports, and recreation. Nowadays, the School of Education is composed of 7 departments: Pedagogy and Didactics, Measurement and Evaluation, Preschool, Physical Education, Educational Administration, Psychology and Orientation, and Philosophy.


 

Research 

Closely related to its mission, the School of Education has centers and research groups that fulfill important academic tasks of teaching and research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Examples of the different research groups are Evaluación educacional, Enseñanza a la matemática en la Educación Superior (GIEMES) and Innovación Educativa. It is also important to note the work of the Centro de Ciencias Aplicadas al Deporte which is coordinated by the Department of Physical Education, Sports, and Recreation. School of Letters

 

 

History

The School of Humanities of the Faculty of Law was elevated to the rank of Faculty in 1958. The section of Letters that constituted it, became the School of Letters, the second one in our country. This initiative was taken by Prof. Carlos César Rodríguez, who was the first Dean of our faculty and who sought to restore the humanist tradition of the University of Los Andes.

The School of Letters aims to promote, disseminate and safeguard the imperishable contributions of the humanistic tradition and to incorporate those that arise in correspondence with the signs of contemporary culture. 

The University of Los Andes through the School of Letters confers the degree in Letters in different majors. For further information please refer to Study programs


Structure 

Today the School of Arts of the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the University of Los Andes comprises tree departments: Linguistics, Hispanic and Venezuelan Literature, History of Art and Language and Classical Literature.


Research 

In accordance with its mission and objectives, the School also has important Centers and Research Groups that seek to promote and guide the work of academic research. Among the research groups, we find the Grupo de Investigación de Arte Latinoamericano (GIAL), the research group of Ciencias Fonéticas and also the Alcyone research group. It is also important to mention the presence of the Centro de Investigaciones y Atención Lingüistica, coordinated by the Department of Linguistics.
